Would You Let Your Kids Plan Your Holiday?

A recent study carried out by Marella Cruises, the UK’s third biggest cruise line found that what kids wanted to do most on holiday was to be outdoors with their family. Exploring, playing games and swimming with parents and siblings were high on their agendas. The study also revealed that almost 60%* of kids wanted to get involved in planning the family break including the destination and the daily itinerary. Theme parks, beaches and eating favourite foods were just some of the favourite activities mentioned.

So I thought I’d test this theory and asked my 4 year old what kind of holiday he would plan…

Where would you like to go on holiday?

Somewhere with a castle and a seaside and a train.

Who would you take with you?

My best friend from school, Mummy, Daddy and my sister. But definitely not the cats.

How would you get there?

On the train!

What would you eat?

A picnic, everyday! With cheese and sausages and ice cream.

What fun things would you do during the day?

Paddle in the sea, dig holes in the sand to find treasure, go in the arcade and win prizes with my 2ps.

Sounds like an alright holiday to me!

The Saccone Jolys family actually did this for real and let their five year old daughter Emilia plan their whole trip. She chose everything from the type of holiday to the destination and what they got up to. They had a great holiday that they could never have imagined with Marella Cruises.

  1. Your son’s holiday sounds like a good one to me! Not sure about cheese & sausages for lunch every day though! #ablogginggoodtime

  2. I sure would! It is her vacation as well. Course I am not sure I could find a place with unicorns and waterslides that come out of her hotel door but I shall try! #ablogginggoodtime

  3. Absolutely! I plan all our holidays around J’s interests anyway which are being outside and animals which we love too so it would work well. I might be a little more specific about the accommodation mind you! I love the answers your son gave. Sounds very Famous Fiveish – love it!

  4. I’m not sure I’d let my teenager plan our holiday! I’m not entirely convinced we’d leave the house that often.
