It was Finley’s 2nd birthday this week so we both took a days holiday from work and he bunked Nursery. We got him a few little presents but nothing major so his big gift was a Birthday Day Out.
Its something I hope we can maintain in the years to come as his birthday will always be in the school holidays. He has his party set for Sunday and all the family will be there but we wanted to have him to ourselves for a whole day and take him out and treat him to a ridiculous amount of sugar!
I had a good weather and a bad weather plan. The good weather plan was a trip to a family adventure farm park in Sussex, complete with animals, tractors, water park and rides. I’ll keep it in mind for next year.
The weather gods picked the bad weather plan (is Summer over already??) and we headed to the Gruffalo Experience at Bluewater.
First up we opened some cards and presents in our pyjamas.
Then we went for a mega Birthday Breakfast. The adult meal was only 30p more expensive than the kids one, so he got a biggie and we let him get stuck in. He certainly had a good go at it but he opted out of the bacon and the cooked tomato.
Next up was a much needed birthday haircut, he went off with Daddy to the Barbers whilst I picked up some bits I needed.
Then we headed off to Bluewater and Finley treated himself to a morning snooze.
+Bluewater Shopping Centre
Our first priority was car hire, I’d seen kids being pushed around in these when I was here wedding dress shopping with my sister last month and I knew it would make his day. Plus he is a total pain the arse in shopping centres, long gone are the joys of the pushchair or reigns, he just runs around like a lunatic or we have to carry him which is a killer.
I know this isn’t the best photo but I took it just as we left the store, he absolutely loved it, he chose the green one and he stayed put all afternoon!
I’ve got to recommended these, if you visit Bluewater and you have a kid under 7 – do it! For your own sanity and peace of mind! They charged me £5 for 3 hours, an absolute bargain. Whoever the genius is that came up with this idea – props to you my friend! Splat!
Then we sped off to meet the Gruffalo. It really is a great event, the staging and lighting were great, it really felt like you were in the deep dark wood. The lady who run the show and told the story was particularly good and excellent at getting the kids involved.
Finley loved it, he was desperate to meet the Gruffalo and gave him kisses and cuddles at the end.
I am actually going to say something negative about the event, I was ‘umming and arring’ over whether I should because we had a really good time but things like this really pee me off and it shouldn’t go unmentioned.
You only properly meet the Gruffalo at the end, he comes in and dances about a bit during the experience but at the end you queue up and have a very brief one to one with him. This in itself is a lovely idea but in addition to this they start taking photos and charge you enormous amounts to buy them when you leave. Considering it cost us nearly £35 to attend the event, I think the photo should be included in the price.
Now of course you don’t have to buy them, no ones putting a gun to your head but basically they’ve forced you into a situation where you have to. Of course your kids are going to want the photo with the Gruffalo and their going to whine and gripe about it until you part with your cash.
So because we are such mugs, this cost us £7!
Hashtag cheeky fuckers is in order methinks.
Next up was Five Guys. Honestly I think I died and went to heaven, it was the best milkshake I’ve ever had (Chocolate, whipped cream and oreo pieces).
I can never walk past a Disney Store, it still has so much magic for me.
A really sweet girl who worked there came over to talk to us. He was in his car and happy as Larry and she commented that he must be having a great day and I said I hope so because it’s his birthday. She disappears off and comes back with a card, badge and stickers for him. It’s signed by King Louie because we were saying that he loved The Jungle Book.
|How sweet is that?|
|In the end he picked out a Roo instead of King Louie.|
