Bewl Water, Kent

Last weekend for the first time in ages, all three of us were not working / not moving house / not running around like headless chickens trying to catch up on everything. This weekend we were on no-ones schedule but our own and it was lovely!

We had been invited to spend the day at Bewl Water in Lamberhurst, its only twenty minutes from where we live now and its the kind of the thing that is right up Finley’s street.

Take him outdoors to a big open space – throw in a boat, some mud, a cheese sandwich and the longest slide he’s ever seen and he’s the happiest child in the world!

Bewl Water is the largest lake in the South East and the site really is vast and beautiful. The park stands in the heart of the High Weald, the area of Kent, Sussex and Surrey known for its outstanding natural beauty.

I’d mentioned to family that we were planning a day out to Bewl and I was met with comments about extortionate parking fee’s. Apparently the site used to charge £8 a day, but since its been under new ownership the daily fee has been reduced to £2 per vehicle and I think that’s very reasonable.

Everything on site is now owned by the one company, not several and so each element is pulling together to give you the best value for money. It’s very popular with water sport enthusiasts – sailing, canoeing and fishing but if you are novices like us – you can take a boat trip around the lake for forty minutes for just £6. The grounds are brilliantly maintained and the play area is fab. The giant ship was a big hit for Finley and he spent a lot of time playing on and under, pretending to be a pirate!

There are two restaurants on site and we chose to eat in the more casual Waterfront Cafe. They had lunch boxes for kids, plus hot and cold options for us. The staff were really helpful and friendly and the cafe was very clean. Well it was until Finley started on his cheese sandwich anyway!

I made a small video of our day because we had such a great time and we will definetly be visiting again!
